Scott Urschel – President & CEO

With over thirty years of experience in the aviation industry accumulating more than ten thousand flight hours flying fixed wing and rotary aircraft, Scott’s expertise as a subject matter expert in several segments of the aviation industry. His substantial skill set and knowledge base spans various aviation fields that include experience related to manufacturing, ground and flight evaluation and testing, aircraft certification, training, sales, international operations and regulations, and a multitude of skills relating specifically to helicopter operations.

Having flown over thirty different makes and models of helicopters and more than seventy-five fixed wing aircraft coupled with over twenty years spent in the aerospace manufacturing industry,

Scott has developed unique skills to evaluate customer mission requirements. Ensuring when a customer is purchasing an aircraft, that they receive the most effective and efficient aircraft that is suited to the primary mission the aircraft will perform. This approach saves customers from making aircraft selection errors that often result in a costly replacement in the event an aircraft does not possess the characteristics or performance requirements needed for the mission.

Scott’s diverse experience is relied upon by many for his valuable input. Consulting with individual pilots, aviation companies both large and small, and several helicopter manufacturers for various tasks where his experience was sought out to provide valued feedback in a consultative role in the development of new technology, improvements to existing technology and flight testing capacities. Pylon Aviation performed flight testing and evaluation for the new short light single Bell 505 JRX helicopter, performance testing of new inlet barrier filter systems for leading helicopter manufacturers, NVG certifications, and flight testing for a high-speed envelope expansion completed on the MD520N NOTAR. Scott was also the first pilot issued a license to perform helicopter pylon air racing and is currently one of only two FAA licensed helicopter aerobatic pilots in the Unites States.

Scott balances his extensive helicopter resume with flying fixed wing aircraft that ranging from vintage tailwheel aircraft, Warbirds to a variety of corporate jets.  Scott is a member of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots (SETP) and The International Council of Air Shows (ICAS) ACE (Aerobatic Competency Evaluator).

When not flying or engaging with customers Scott and his wife Gina travel and enjoy deep sea fishing, scuba diving and off roading in Mexico. Scott and Gina have five children between them and three grandchildren.
